Baby Shower Invitation Wording: Classic, Co-Ed and Sprinkle Examples
Baby shower invitation wording for classic, co-ed and virtual showers and sprinkles, with lines for the host, the registry, books and diapers.
Baby shower invitation wording names the parent or parents-to-be, says who is hosting, and gives the date, place and reply details. Many invitations also mention the gift registry. Here are examples for classic showers, co-ed showers, sprinkles and virtual showers, with lines for registries, books and diapers.
What to include on a baby shower invitation
- Who the shower is for. The parent-to-be, or both parents for a co-ed shower.
- Who is hosting. “Hosted by Clara and Beth” tells guests who to contact.
- Date, start and end time. Most showers last two to three hours.
- Location. A home address, or the venue name and address.
- Registry details. Usually a short line or a link.
- How to RSVP. A reply-by date about a week before the shower.
- Optional extras. Theme, games, a request for books, or whether the baby’s sex will be revealed.
Traditionally a friend or relative hosts the shower rather than the parents-to-be, although parents now often host their own, especially for a co-ed party. Either way, name the host on the invitation.
Classic baby shower wording
- “Please join us for a baby shower honoring Emma Ward. Saturday, April 18, 1-4pm, at 14 Maple Drive. Hosted by Clara Ward and Beth Lane. RSVP to Clara by April 11.”
- “A little one is on the way! Join us to celebrate mom-to-be Priya Shah on Sunday, May 3, at 2pm, at The Tea Rooms. Hosted by her sisters, Anya and Rina.”
- “Oh baby! You’re invited to a shower for Hannah Cole. Saturday, June 13, 11am-2pm, at the Willow Café. Brunch will be served. Registered at Little Nest.”
- “Please join us for tea and cake in honor of Sofia, who is expecting a baby girl. Sunday, March 22, 3-5pm, at 9 Birch Lane.”
Co-ed baby shower wording
A co-ed shower invites friends of both parents, and often partners and children too. Make that clear in the wording so guests know who to bring.
- “Baby Lewis is on the way! Join Emma and Josh for a co-ed baby shower. Saturday, July 11, 2-5pm, at 30 Oak Street. Partners and kids welcome. Burgers and lemonade provided.”
- “Diapers and drinks! Celebrate Priya and Sam before baby arrives. Saturday, August 15, from 4pm, at The Garden Bar. Bring a pack of diapers and we’ll provide the drinks.”
- “Ready or not, here baby comes. Please join us for a backyard baby shower for Maya and Chris on Sunday, September 6, 1-4pm, at 7 Pine Court.”
Baby sprinkle wording
A sprinkle is a smaller, lighter shower for a second or later baby. The family already has most of the essentials, so the focus is on celebrating and on a few small gifts such as diapers, clothes or books.
- “Baby number two is almost here! Join us for a sprinkle for Hannah. Saturday, October 10, 10am-noon, at 5 Ash Grove. Diapers and books are all we need.”
- “A little sprinkle for a little brother. Please join us to celebrate Emma and baby Leo on Sunday, April 26, at 3pm, at our home.”
- “It’s a sprinkle! Come for coffee and cake as we celebrate Priya and baby number three. Saturday, February 7, 10:30am, at The Corner Café.”
Virtual baby shower wording
For guests who live far away, give the time zone, the platform, and when the link will be sent.
- “Join us online to shower Emma with love. Saturday, May 16, 2pm ET, on Zoom. We will share the link the day before.”
- “Near or far, you’re invited! Celebrate baby Patel with a virtual shower on Sunday, June 21, 11am PT. Games, gift opening and lots of happy tears.”
Registry wording
Mentioning the registry on a shower invitation is accepted, because the purpose of a shower is to help the parents prepare. Keep the line short and polite.
- “Emma is registered at Little Nest.”
- “For gift ideas, see the registry link below.”
- “Your presence is the best gift. If you would like to bring something, Priya’s registry is linked below.”
- “No gifts please. Just bring your best advice for the new parents.”
Book and diaper request lines
- Books instead of cards: “Instead of a card, please bring a favorite children’s book with a note inside.”
- Diaper raffle: “Bring a pack of diapers, any size, for a chance to win a prize.”
- Time together: “No gifts needed, but freezer meals for the new parents are very welcome.”
When to send baby shower invitations
Send invitations 4 to 6 weeks before the shower and set the RSVP date about a week before it. Most showers take place four to eight weeks before the due date, which leaves time for the parents to sort their gifts. For more ways to ask guests to reply, see our RSVP wording examples.

- What do you write on a baby shower invitation?
- Include who the shower is for, who is hosting, the date and time, the location, the registry details and how to RSVP. For example: “Please join us for a baby shower honoring Emma Ward. Saturday, April 18, 1-4pm, at 14 Maple Drive. RSVP to Clara by April 11.”
- Is it rude to put registry information on a baby shower invitation?
- No. A shower is a gift-giving event, so a short registry line or link on the invitation is accepted. Keep it brief, such as “Emma is registered at Little Nest.”
- What is the difference between a baby shower and a sprinkle?
- A baby shower usually celebrates a first baby and helps the parents gather the essentials. A sprinkle is a smaller, more casual party for a second or later baby, with small gifts such as diapers and books.
- How do you word a co-ed baby shower invitation?
- Name both parents and make it clear that everyone is welcome: “Join Emma and Josh for a co-ed baby shower. Partners and kids welcome.”
- When should baby shower invitations be sent?
- Send them 4 to 6 weeks before the shower, with an RSVP date about a week before. Most showers are held four to eight weeks before the due date.
